7 Things to Do in Fort Worth – May 31-June 2

7 Things to Do in Fort Worth - May 31-June 2

Ready for the weekend to start yet? Here’s seven things you can do to make it more enjoyable.

Rangers vs. Royals

1. Due to Wednesday’s game being postponed, the Texas Rangers finish up their home series with the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight. They’ll have a quick turnaround as they face the Kansas City Royals this weekend. The 32-20 Rangers are currently first place in the American League West. The Royals are 21-29. The entire Kansas City series is at home this weekend and starts at 7:05 Friday night. Tickets are available online or at the gate.

In the House

2. Every weekend from now until July 21, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is putting on a series of critically acclaimed films called Magnolia at the Modern. This weekend’s film is "In the House." According to the Modern's website, "In the House" is an examination of storytelling in which a sixteen-year-old boy insinuates himself into the house of a fellow student and writes about it for school. The film is directed by François Ozon and based off Juan Mayorga’s play "The Boy in the Back Row." The film is rated R and the dialogue is in French with English subtitles. Tickets are $8.50 per person and $6.50 for Modern members.

Concert at Billy Bob’s

3. Josh Thompson will be performing at 10:30 p.m. on Friday night at Billy Bob’s. According to Billy Bob’s website, he has "a soulful and distinctive voice reminiscent of legends like Haggard and Cash." The website also lists "Beer on the Table" and "Way Out Here" as his top hits. Tickets are either $10 or $15 depending on seating. They can be purchased at the gate or online here.

Fort Worth Food Park

4. Looking for a different way to enjoy a meal this weekend? Try out the Fort Worth Food Park between the hours of 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Sunday. The park, located at 2509 Weisenberger Street, offers a variety of food trucks serving different dishes including custom hotdogs, Italian dishes and cupcakes. Be sure to check this calendar to see which trucks are parked there each day. The park is pet-friendly and all of the trucks accept credit cards. It also offers free wireless Internet, outdoor games and live music.

Fort Worth Zoo

5. If the weather for this weekend holds up, the Fort Worth Zoo is another viable option. The zoo is open from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. every weekday and closes at 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. With various attractions such as the Tasmanian Tower and the Yellow Rose Express Train, there is more to do than just see the wide variety of animals. Tickets are $12 for adults and $9 for children.

Movie Tavern

6. For those who have never been to a Movie Tavern before, now’s the chance. This weekend, "After Earth" and "Now You See Me" join blockbusters like "Fast and Furious 6" and "Star Trek Into Darkness" in theaters. With several locations around the Fort Worth area and plenty of movies to see, there are many options to choose from. Movie Tavern theaters offer plenty of choices on their menu for patrons to enjoy during the movie as well. Tickets are usually around $10 per person, and a meal is not included in that price.

Arrested Development

7. If you don’t feel like going out this weekend and you’d prefer to just stay in, Netflix released all 15 episodes of the fourth season of "Arrested Development" this week. The sitcom, created by Mitchell Hurwitz, follows the dysfunctional Bluth family and has been on a seven-year hiatus until now. The first three seasons won many awards, including six Emmys. The new episodes are only available on Netflix, but the first three seasons are available on DVD.
