Three players to watch: Southeastern Louisiana

Three players to watch: Southeastern Louisiana

When the Southeastern Louisiana University Lions come to Fort Worth Saturday, they will be riding high after winning their season opener in a blowout against Southeast Missouri State University, 45-7. Racking up an impressive 494 total yards, the Lions come into Saturday's game boasting one of the more potent offenses in the Football Championship Subdivision, led by junior transfer Brian Bennett.

Bryan Bennett, quarterback, junior

A junior transfer from the University of Oregon, Bryan Bennett of Granada Hills, Calif., comes into the 2013 season on the College Football Performance Award FCS Performer of the Year watch list. In the Lions' first game of the 2013 season, Bennett threw for 169 yards (9-of-15) and did damage with his feet, scrambling for 106 yards and three touchdowns. The Lions will be looking for big things out of Brian Bennett this season.

Cqulin Hubert, linebacker, senior

A senior from Houston, Texas, Cqulin Hubert begins the 2013 season on the Butkus Award watch list for the best linebacker in college football. In his junior season with the Lions, he recorded 60 tackles in only eight starts, ranking fourth on the team and 28th in the league. He was also responsible for 9.5 tackles for loss last season. If Southeastern Louisiana is going to have any hope of slowing down the incredibly proficient Horned Frog offense, Hubert will need to play to his full potential.

Xavier Roberson, running back, sophomore

A sophomore running back out of Atlanta, Ga., Xavier Robinson will look to build off of a very successful freshman year in 2012 in which he was named to the All-Southland Conference (second team). He rushed for 488 yards last season and ran for four touchdowns on only 105 carries. Where Roberson really excels, however, is on kick returns, averaging 33.3 yards a return in 2012 and tying a school record with two returns for touchdowns. In his first game against Southeast Missouri State this year, he carried the ball 11 times for 54 yards and a touchdown. He also returned two kickoffs for 95 yards, one of which was a breakout return for 65 yards.
