A reception welcomed the newly-hired Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Campus Life, Dr. David Cozzens, on Thursday.

Several students and faculty members mingled with Cozzens in the Chancellor’s Dining Room. Sidney Dennis, first-year biology major, came to meet Cozzens.

“Getting involved and meeting faculty is a good thing so they know you, see you around and make connections,” Dennis said.

Faculty like Lindsey Knight, an assistant director at Student Development Services, said she was excited to be working with Cozzens.

“When he came for his interview I was really excited about his philosophy . . . he seemed like someone who really cared about the students,” said Knight, who is in charge of first year student orientation within Transitions programming.

Cozzens said he’s looking forward to supporting students and helping them “navigate the system.”

According to the TCU news release announcing the hire back in October, Cozzens had previously worked as the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at the University of Wyoming since 2007.

The campus life office is open Monday through Friday, with the mission of helping students with academic and personal success.

According to the campus life website, the Dean’s role is to assist with student concerns, help resolve personal emergencies, promote healthy lifestyles and maintain community and university standards.

The Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Kathy Cavins-Tull said, student wellness is an important part of how students perform in the classroom.

“Campus Life is a place where you can go and get resources,” Cavins-Tull said.

“Everyone who works at Campus Life is really good about reaching out and collaborating,” Knight said.

Knight said she thought Cozzens would be a great asset to the TCU community.
