University of Roehampton program offers a new study abroad experience

The University of Roehampton in London is TCU’s newest flagship Study Abroad program.

Roehampton, a traditional campus university in London, will allow TCU students to study abroad there as early as next fall.

TCU’s Center for International Studies held an informational session on the Roehampton study abroad program on Feb. 6. Talah Omran, international officer for the University of Roehampton, spoke about the similarities between the two universities.

“Being here right now is kind of like being at Roehampton in Texas,” Omran said. “The ethos of the two universities comes across not only in the fantastic staff, but also in the caliber of the students.”

TCU already has a major study abroad program in London at the University of Westminster, but Susan Layne, study abroad advisor, says Roehampton offers a completely different experience with its own unique advantages.

“Roehampton can meet almost any course requirement that a student needs, it has a wonderful traditional campus look and it is also our most affordable program that we offer,” Layne said.

The similar course catalogs between TCU and Roehampton will give students from different majors, such as kinesiology and dance, an opportunity to go abroad and continue their coursework.

The University of Roehampton will also sort each TCU student into one of four colleges that make up the university, a Harry Potter-esque twist on the experience that is intriguing many students.

Roehampton has students from over 110 different nationalities, Omran said. Its unique atmosphere coupled with a location sitting only a short train ride away from central London, is a big draw for the university.

“Our international status makes us a better university as a whole,” Omran said. “Being so close to London, the economic capital of the world, and still providing that traditional campus feel is fantastic.”

Students like Nian Dim, a first-year kinesiology major, are looking forward to taking advantage of this new study abroad opportunity.

“I love London and I’ve always really wanted to go there. It looks beautiful and I’m really excited to try something new,” Dim said.
