The Fort Worth City Council voted to implement a ban on building permits in single-family zoned neighborhoods around TCU on Tuesday, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

According to the Star-Telegram, the suspension will continue until Dec. 31 unless the council decides to lift is sooner.

The Fort Worth zoning commission postponed a decision regarding the proposed special zoning area around TCU.

The ordinance was proposed in June because of various complaints from residents around TCU.

Dana Burghdoff, the Deputy Planning and Development director for the City of Fort Worth, said people were complaining they were like “mini dormitories” or “mini fraternity houses.”

A mediation group, which will include neighborhood leaders, TCU administrators and student government leaders, will begin meeting on Wednesday to discuss the ordinance and other public issues that were raised during the discussion, according to the Star-Telegram.
