Lady Frogs fall to CSU in tournament opener

The Horned Frogs fell to Colorado State, 76-62, on Friday in the opener of the 2014 OMNI Classic in Boulder, Colo.

Leading the team with a season-high 20 points and a team-best seven rebounds, senior guard Natalie Ventress shot 7-of-10 from the field and 2-of-3 from long range.

TCU wasn’t able to catch a lead until senior forward Chelsea Prince, senior guard Donielle Breaux and freshman guard AJ Alix made back-to-back-to-back triples, bringing the score to 15-13.

Ventress brought TCU to its final lead after she drove in for a layup, accounting for nine-straight points for the Frogs.

The Frogs were not able to hold on to the advantage, as the Rams were able to score four points and bring the score to 35-32, bringing the first half to a close.

Opening the second half of the match, Ventress quickly brought in two points with a pair of free throws. TCU was just down by one at this point.

However, with 12:56 remaining in the game, Colorado State stretched to a 52-40 lead.

TCU made one last run after Ventress connected on her second 3-pointer of the game. The Frogs, at 58-50 with 5:32 left, were only able to make 12 more points by the end of the contest, which was put out of reach by the Rams after hitting back-to-back three-point shots.

The Horned Frogs will continue to play in Boulder on Saturday against Missouri State at 6 p.m.
