Weekend sports recap: Feb. 6 – Feb. 8

    Equestrian

    The No. 2 TCU equestrian team started 2015 with a win over SMU at the annual Fort Worth Stock Show Dual Friday. 

    After a final score of 11-7, the Horned Frogs improved to 5-1 overall including an undefeated record at home this season.

    The team will head to the Turning Point Ranch to take on No. 1 Baylor Saturday.

    Men’s Tennis

    Men’s tennis remains undefeated this season after dominating New Mexico 6-1 Friday. 

    Senior Will Stein won his singles match in two sets and won his doubles match alongside his partner Nick Chappell.

    For the first time since 2001, the No. 17 Horned Frogs will head to the ITA Indoor National Championships.

    Baseball

    The TCU baseball team topped the alumni team 9-1 in the annual alumni game on Saturday.

    Fans were able to witness four pitchers the team will feature this season including Mitchell Traver, Brain Howard, Ryan Burnett and Preston Guillory.

    The 2015 regular season kicks off on Friday against Southern Illinois at Lupton Stadium.

    Track and Field

    The TCU men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the Texas A&M Aggie Invitational Saturday.

    Kolby Listenbee finished in third place in the men’s 60 meters with a time of 6.82 seconds. Freshman Antonio Franklin and sophomore Cameron Echols-Luper represented TCU in the finals and finished fifth and seventh, respectively.

    Freshman Briona Oliver finished third in women’s long jump with a distance of 5.58 meters—the best for TCU this season.

    The Horned Frogs will compete in the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. next weekend.

    Men’s Basketball

    The TCU men’s basketball team lost its sixth straight game Saturday after falling to No. 21 Oklahoma, 68-56.

    Despite leading throughout the first half, the Frogs were unable to regain momentum after the Sooners took a 10-point lead four minutes into the second half.

    After the loss, TCU’s record sits at 14-9 overall and 1-9 in Big 12 play.

    The team will travel to Austin to take on No. 25 Texas Wednesday.

    Women’s Basketball

    TCU’s women’s basketball team sealed another conference game with a 71-60 win over Texas Tech Sunday afternoon.

    Senior Natalie Ventress led the team with 11 points and seven rebounds, while junior Veja Hamilton made 10 points, extending her double digit streak to 12 games.

    The Horned Frogs record improved to 14-8 overall and 6-5 in Big 12 play.

    The Frogs head back on the road to take the court against Kansas State on Wednesday.

    Golf

    The TCU men’s golf team finished in fifth place at the Amer Ari Invitational on the Waikoloa Kings Course in Hawaii Saturday.

    Senior Julien Brun matched his career low with an 8-under 64. The Horned Frogs posted the day’s second lowest round with a 20-under 268.

    The Frogs will head to Palm Desert, Calif. for the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Feb. 20.
