One prospective buyer wanted to turn it into a dance studio. Another, an office building. Someone even asked about the renovation process to turn it back into a movie theater.

For now, the Berry Theater at 3033 Hemphill St. remains abandoned with significant structural damage.

However, the landmark features an iconic sign and is situated in the Hemphill/Berry village, an area targeted for revitalization and redevelopment.

Perhaps the theater could return for a sequel, as Fort Worth officials say they are hoping to spark private investment in the area through streetscape improvements.

Community member JoAnn Morgan, member of the Travis Avenue Baptist Church across the street, said she just hopes the Berry Theater finds a purpose.

Morgan said she grew up going to the movies at the Berry Theater, and hopes it can once again serve the local community.
