Kathryn Cavins-Tull selected as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

Kathryn Cavins-Tull selected as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

TCU administrators have selected Dr. Kathryn Cavins-Tull to be the new Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs as the replacement for Don Mills, according to a press release from Chancellor Victor Boschini.

Mills announced in November he would step down from his position to become the Distinguished Professor of Educational Leadership in the College of Education.

Since 2005, Cavins-Tull served as Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Ill. Cavins-Tull received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Western Illinois University before receiving a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration and Foundations from Illinois State University. She returned to Western Illinois University where she held different positions related to student services, including Associate Vice President for Student Services in 2005.

“Dr. Cavins-Tull will be a tremendous asset to TCU in her new role as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs,” Boschini said in the release. “Her extensive background in Student Affairs, along with her enthusiasm and vigor, set her apart from other candidates.”

Provost Nowell Donovan, chair of the search committee to find Mills’ replacement, said Cavins-Tull will be responsible for many aspects as the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.

These aspects include the behavior of students, the well-being and safety of students, the social discipline of students, the housing of students and the non-curricular aspect of student life. He said she would be in charge of food and catering, parking, as well as hearing from the TCU Chief of Police, who reports to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Donovan said the vice chancellor also acts as the face of TCU to the outside community and helps keep good “neighborly relationships.”
