Weather delays NCAA meet, Frogs continue on to finals

Thursday’s track and field action was cut short for the Horned Frogs due to inclement weather. The meet will resume on Friday back at Drake Stadium in Des Moine, Iowa.

Senior Jessica Young beat the rain en route to a 23.15 time in the women’s 200 meters. The time was good enough for 14th place, just missing an opportunity to compete in the finals heat. However, Young will get another shot when she runs in the 100-meter finals on Friday.

The lone male Frog in Des Moine, Charles Silmon, ended his season with a time of 20.82 in the 200-meter semifinals, putting him in 10th place.

The women’s 1,600-meter relay team of senior Kristal Juarez, Jessica Young, freshman Briyanni Thomas and senior Teneshia Peart did not get the chance to get race before the weather caused cancellations and postponements. The NCAA will convene at 8 a.m. to decide when action will resume on Friday.

Other than the 1,600-meter relay, TCU also has Young competing in the 100-meter finals at 6:55 p.m., Friday.
